Grant Centenary Gold Dollar with the 2012 Five-Star Generals Gold Half Eagle. The 1922 coin honors Grant the President and the Civil War General. Grant was promoted to the rank of Four-Star General after conclusion of the Civil War - it was the highest rank at the time (the rank of Five-Star General did not exist in 1866). The 2013 Five-Star Generals Gold Half Eagle features a portrait of Five-Star General Douglas MacArthur. MacArthur was among the first four Army officers to be promoted to the newly created (December 1944) rank of Five-Star General. Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems.
