i have a 500lb safe and stored my coins in it in my garage for almost 15yrs. when I went in to go through them a couple months back several of the silver coins were tarnished. I immediately pulled all my silver and higher end coins out and put them in the house where its warmer and dryer.

Thanks for the info, Humble Pie. That would certainly be an upgrade from the basket of loose silica gel packs I currently use.

You are more than welcome!

I also used the gel packs on each shelf before getting this.

The first couple days the thermostat was on the green/yellow border, by the third day the thermostat was on the yellow/red border. After day 3 it has always been down in the red and stays there.

I decided to go and take a photo of the thermostat while writing this out to show what you can expect out of these. Keep in mind I was in and out of my safe a lot yesterday, but I do always keep the door closed when I'm done each time.

I only use 2 combs as of now, just imagine what 4 combs would do. I would assume one of the perks of using 4 would extend the time between recharge needed to probably every 20 days instead of 10.

That thing looks really nice. Right now I use rechargeable silica packs on each shelf. I try to keep the humidity in the 40-50% range in the safe, mostly because I worry if taking the coins from any lower humidity in the safe to the higher 50-60% humidity of my house, when I look at them, would cause any issues. Does anyone else have any concerns with that?

My experience mirrors several others ... no problems over many years. A "rechargeable" desiccant box has worked quite well, in a conditioned space.

Although new, my collection is growing quickly and I am considering getting an additional safe. I have been keeping them in my gun safe, but have actually had to remove some of the extra stuff I kept in there (ammo, holsters, etc) to make room. I didn't know about the color changing desiccant pouches, definitely gonna get some of those from now on.
