@timothhys_coins: Yes, I think I am going to register on Thingiverse, it is just that I am having trouble accessing it from China.

The one attached to the lens is not generic, ie, the half mirror is sort of hard to find item, the slot is designed for that particular piece of mirror. But other designs are more or less generic, I have made the slot to be 2mm thick, enough to fit most UV filters, even with different printing materials -- like eSun black matte filament, I can make that slot 1.4mm thick and still fit, but with other cheap filament, I have to make it 2mm, else the glass wont't fit.

So, if I upload them, I have to think about people using different materials and with different printers, else, people will complain :-)

OK, still could not access Youtube, so here is a 80x80 half mirror based one. Much easier to use, can handle larger coins, and lighting is much better. Did not activate Photoshop, too expensive Shot two images in JPeg, so white balance might be off. Camera is 12 year old Canon 550D (Ti in US), El Nikkor 50 f/2.8 is extended normally (vs reversed), magnification is about 1.1x, two images stitched together using Microsoft ICE (Image Composite Editor). Sharpened a bit after stitch.

Two layers of diffusion are added, one should be enough, but the lens cleaning paper is too thin, so added another layer, a piece of photography diffusion paper, outside,

Here are the two images, basically, just shoot one image, shift the whole thing, ie, the coaxial box up a bit and take another shot.

thanks, jbuck.

Here is another one, half dollar, it is a little big so I decided to shoot 4 images and stitch them together, with camera fixed, I simply moved the blue lift in previous post to take 4 shots, all took less than 10 minutes, including automatic stitching using Microsoft ICE

I think there are a lot of room to do maybe even 3x3 shots for larger coins or at higher magnification, which might require stacking.

This 100 ptas silver coin is 34mm in diameter, with APS-C sensor, have to do it in 3 rows, but 2 colums is fine, so total 6 images. Will post how it is done in a video to show how easy it is. Sure, will post the 3D printing file somewhere.

Very impressive. If you had not told us the images were composited, I would have never known.

Thanks jbuck. Yes, with Microsoft ICE (free software), it is very easy and since most coins have a lot "features", alignment is easy, so long as you have enough overlap.

It looks like this is it, 80x80 half mirror is the one for fairly large coins and easy to use, shifting the whole thing by hand is easy, too, so stitching is possible.

Over expose by 1 to 1.5 stops can brighten up the image without losing details. This one is stitched from 6 images, 1 stop over exposed.

@mjkzz I have we chat if you want to send on there I can upload for everyone in US.

I also have a few 3d printers printing PLA+ and a carbon fiber nylon composite so I can also work up a few cura profiles.

I am still working on my parametric modeling and I have been trying to model this on my own since I saw your video :D

As to the black background, I haven't tried this material myself but it looks promising, I was thinking of getting some for a flocking on one of my telescopes to reduce internal reflections from near by bright stars in my field of view, (sometimes an issue with one of my optical trains). Not the cheapest stuff, but next to Vanta-Black nanotube coating (expensive), it is the darkest material around.
