It has been a while, but today I got a new proof set in the mail! This time from India. Although expensive, I am very pleased with it.

Great additions, NumisEd!

You should be able to find a 1973 UK proof set easily, but look carefully before choosing one, as the material used for the insert that year seems to react with the coins, especially the bronze ones. Finding a 1973 UK proof set without ugly toning is quite a challenge!

Indeed.
I have seen many UK proof sets already, but all of the bronze coins inside those sets had some sort of unappealing circular toning.
You think I should be able to find a pristine set in the US or online, or do you think I need to go to England for that?

You're probably as likely to find one in the US or online as in England - these coins were sold quite widely overseas as it gave collectors the opportunity to get full sets of UK coins going back to Decimalization. The sets dated 1972 to 1976 were all released at the same time, in the Spring of 1976.

In addition to several world coins I bought at the Bay State Coin Show today, I also received a Spain 1973 Prueba Coin Set in the mail today. From Etsy of all places! At first glance, the set looked as advertised; ok, but not great.

...but then I decided to work my magic and the result is spectacular!

Note that Spanish coins of the period 1939-1975 were minted during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, which is why his portrait is on the obverse.
Also, the date "1957" does not denote the date of minting but refers to the series date. The date of minting can be found embossed in the star on the reverse of the coin.

A few of us in the CCF are working on a world birth year set. You are off to a very good start. 1973 had a number of the big silver coins, partly thanks to the Franklin Mint.

Are you collecting all the mint marks and varieties/ metal versions too (like all the mints in Germany)?

I am collecting one set per country only. For Germany, the West-German version.
However, in case there is no set I buy the coins separately.
