Yikes @all. If my math is right, you've got a little under 400 pounds of them lying around.

I collected copper pennies when I lived in Panama, including Panamanian copper pennies (made at the US mint with identical planchets as US pennies of the time). A few are corroded but there are still quite a few in decent condition.

based on today's spot prices, it takes 1236 pounds of copper (1377 pounds of pennies) to equal one ounce of gold ... hmmm ... that being said, I also hoard copper pennies ...

I was foolish enough to hoard cents in 1981-82 because of the copper shortage. Spot copper has appreciated over the years, but I thought I'd be able to find lots of rare, valuable coins when I reviewed them. About 30lbs of cents. Very little of them were "fresh". I had not kept them safe from environmental damage. In hindsight, I should have just taken them to a coin machine!

Do your hoarded copper cents include Wheaties or do you separate those out? That's what I do but I don't have a ton of them lying around. Wrapping up cents is not cost effective to me.

@boss, in general wheat cents are worth three to five cents each and therefore are worth separating for sale.
