OK, my fellow forum peeps, I have officially hit 10,000 copper pennies. Or 10,462 to be more exact, including Wheaties, Canadians, Indian Head cents, and a German 2 cent. Yes, I'm OCD enough to keep a spreadsheet, or we'll just call that detail-oriented ... Now I just need to replicate that 29 more times to catch up to nss-52's current total Cheers!

I hold onto them because my Grandpa said I should. I know his reasoning went out the window when the law against melting them passed, but I'm super sentimental.
Up to recently, though, I haven't been all that diligent about it—that's changed, plus I'm occasionally asking for penny rolls at the bank (not boxes, just whatever they can spare). At some point I may end up with so many I have to rethink.

The European metals sector welcomed a move by the EU on Thursday to include copper and nickel as strategic materials for the first time. The Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) unveiled by the European Union adds the two major industrial metals to a list that had previously focused on more niche minerals such as cobalt, lithium and rare earths. Copper is used in renewable energy systems and for wiring in electric vehicles (EVs) while nickel is a major component in many EV batteries. The VDM Association of German Metal Traders and Recyclers was among those pushing for aluminium and zinc to be included. Hastening the future loss of coinage, or increasing its potential later value such as in copper pennies or nickels? https://copperalliance.org/wp-conte...ials-Act.pdfhttps://www.mining.com/web/eu-tags-...-wants-more/

I had 2 - 10 gallon milk cans full of pre 1982 pennies that I sorted over 45 years. Returned them to the bank, used to take the wife on a trip.

OK, I have now hit 20,030 copper cents, give or take a few, including Wheat cents, Canadians, IHCs, etc. I believe I hit 10k copper cents on 2/10, and today is 4/22, so it looks like I'm collecting 10k copper cents every 2.5 months. So if I want to collect 300k copper cents, at this rate, it would take me another 70 months, or 5.83 years, of non-stop collecting. So we'll see.
Cheers!

Much better things could be done with those pennies - cash them in and buy something that has a better chance of appreciating in value. And isn't so heavy.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures
