I hope everyone invested in goldbacks, they're worth more than actual gold itself ATM!

I have a few of these -- 1's from each of the states except Florida, and a 5 from Nevada. The art is quite nice but the concept feels gimmicky. I've been on the fence about continuing for a long time. The OCD side of me wants to keep going and at least get the 1 from Florida; the completist side wants to get them all. But I'm skeptical of the future market and the premium is way high even for the smaller denominations.

This is like any other numismatic item. Collect because you like it, not for the promise of any significant ROI. You want to invest in gold? Get the real thing. Just my opinion.

@jbuck..."You want to invest in gold? Get the real thing. Just my opinion:...

...the premium's too high for gold investment. collectable investment right now seems like a gamble ... Prices on ebay have risen, but only time will tell...

....I put together various sets of the ONE denomination issues, including first year issues & year sets...

...here's a 2023 year set...hard to photograph, as these look much more stunning in hand...the gold really shines under lighting, & the camera just doesn't capture that accurately ...

The artwork on these is stunning, mrwiskers. Especially the Florida ones - absolutely gorgeous!
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Goldbacks are very attractive. I like the designs, am considering buying a few for fun. But their premiums are higher than my 90% junk silver, cull Morgan/Peace which should work for barter if need be. I hope things never get that bad.

I agree, Hondo... I just don't know how well this idea will hold on ... the ONEs were about $4.00 when I started buying them, now up to about $6-$7 each for common ones, but still not putting a lot of stock in them as collectables ... but they're fun to show & occasionally I'll leave one with a tip ...

I bought the Florida 1 because I got tired of thinking about it.

I decided to buy a few goldbacks for the fun of it, just some lower denominations. The artwork is nice. I would not make goldbacks a significant portion of a stack. I wonder if these will be used a lot in the states that allow them. I checked several online dealers and they cost around 90-95% over spot, think I did the math correctly. You definitely get more gold buying fractional bars or bullion coins with much less premium.
