Ok, I checked it out.

Just as I expected, there are a lot of combinations to choose from. The number themselves from 30.00 to 39.99 include 999 possible outcomes. We know that not every combination is possible given the problem statement.

For instance, if we assume the coins come from this list: Cent, Nickel, Dime, Quarter, Half and Dollar, there are 42 possible combinations which give you values from 0.03 to $3.00. Multiply that times the number of bill combinations gives you a lot of choices, although not 999.

So what's my point? Maybe we need another clue.

Oh, my next guess is.... $30.80

Ok I am going to do something crazy and assume all coins are $1 coins. :P

So my guess is... $37 (1 x $10, 3 x $5, 1 x $2, 7 x $1, 3 x $1 coins)

How is that for thinking outside of the box? :)
