Quote: Congratulations, NumisEd! Wow, I won! Only noticed it now, as I was away on a business trip in toasty Arizona. My guess for the 1926 Sesquicentennial Expo Medal is $40.

A little about this So-Called Dollar / HK-454: At the 1926 U.S. Sesquicentennial Exposition in Philadelphia, the Mint had a press set up in their display area and struck these medals onsite. Plans were for these to be produced in bronze, but the blanks were not ready in time for the opening of the Expo, so nickel blanks were acquired. The presses were not able to adequately strike the nickel blanks and the dies wore quickly. Lower relief dies were prepared, and these nickel examples were produced for the first three months. Afterward, the bronze blanks arrived and were used for the remaining period of the Expo. I had one of the bronze versions and saw this nickel version come up in an auction a while back. Believe it or not, I got a deal on this piece even though the guesses did not reflect that.
