Bought that one when I got my Kagu bird (New Caledonia) upgrade. Filling out my French "colonials".

Quote: Saint Pierre and Miquelon 1948 1 Franc, with a gorgeous Marianne on the obverse and a fine schooner on the reverse. Very nice!

Struck during a period when the UK was redesigning its entire coinage following a period of instability and sharp rises in the price of metals, the 1799 farthing was the first coin of that denomination that actually showed the value on the reverse. Presumably shoppers, confused already by a profusion of private 'Conder' tokens, might not have known what it was. The design was only used for one year - the next farthings in 1806 were slightly smaller and lighter with a revised obverse and reverse:

Neat coin! Surprised nobody has posted a 1797 penny or twopence or 1787 shilling. I don't have any of those coins though. It is fun seeing all of the world coins.

Iceland 1946 2 Krónur. This coin is the first issue of the newly established Republic of Iceland (founded by a referendum in 1944). Minted in aluminium bronze, it was later produced from 1958 - 1966 in nickel brass. The obverse features the Icelandic coat of arms surrounded by the four traditional protector spirits ("Landvćttir") of Iceland. These are Griđungur the bull, Gammur the eagle, Dreki the dragon, and Bergrisi the giant.
