thq,I was a little concerned myself buying this as a raw coin. but I brought it to another coin dealer I frequent and do a lot of business with and as a courtesy to me, he authenticated it and put it under a microscope just so I don't get any surprises, some years down the road.

I did the same thing with a 1794 Half Dime that came back from NGC as a no-grade, and was offered to me at a very attractive price. My go-to dealer thought is was the real thing, and that's good enough for me. Your 1889-CC looks pretty nice compared to my AG-3.

Gorgeous eye appeal; beautiful consistent grey tone with patina in the recesses.

Congrats! That was the best way to acquire a coveted date.

I live in a small town and the only LCS is run by an amiable lunatic who hardly sources anything anymore. I had to dip into my daughter's college fund to get this one through an HA auction:

About 4 months ago, while I was in my LCS , a lady came in and showed us some coins and one was a 1889 CC similar to the one pictured here. They offered $1000. But she said she was going to give it to her son. She inferred that he really didn't have an interest in coins. Let's hope he is not an idiot and pawns it.#128580; A lovely coin and a wonderful album you have there.
