Hello everyone!

Hard to believe its been a year. I really only get a couple months a year to focus on my coin hobby when the weather here in the Chicago area has me huddled inside.

I just wanted to pop in and say hi . The premium Jefferson set that started this journey and was rebuilt just sold on ebay after being listed for a whole year. It reminded me that I haven't made an update in awhile.

Due to investing so much more than I thought in trying to assemble a premium matched set in choice/choice+ BU, I had to sideline this mission for awhile. I also wanted to shift gears this year and focus on upgrading my 90% silver collections given the rapidly changing spot price but that's a whole other thread, right! What a year!

Anyway, I have a basket of nickels to get though and some fresh funds from the sale so lets pick this back up and see if there are any upgrades. If I remember correctly most of these are 60's and later which I am interestingly having the most difficult time finding upgrades.

Well, well, well, luck of the draw! First one I picked up was this 1961d

Its an upgrade as I believe this to be choice+

I'm never gonna get a full step on this one as PCGS only has 6 full step coins graded and they are a little pricy at $5,000- $20,000

A lot of the later coins were scarce in chBU the year they were made. Then after 1965 people quit setting large numbers aside so there are only a few nice coins surviving and a lot of those are in mint sets which are now tarnished. Fortunately nickels usually don't tarnish as badly as the other mint set coins and most of them can be restored to pristine condition by a soak in acetone.

There just aren't many mint sets left any longer and there is growing competition to get them.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

One more out of the basket from last year! Some of the 70's nickels are tough with any stairs. Sorry about the photos...

Choice+ 5FS by NGC standards . Looks like I had to pay $20 but the slabbed ones are a lot more and don't look too much better if at all.

lets see - you outbid everyone and paid $300.00 for that set.

I love you John!
You always make me smile/laugh!
You know...back in the day 1971/72...
My Mother...who was a very attractive woman...would hawk Jefferson nickels...it was her passion. We had never heard of FS back then...she just looked for clean open fields.
Then she would send me in (a young boy 12-13yrs old) to haggle the price .50 to a Doller less then what was asked for a couple of these Jefferson nickels.
This Capital Plastic is one of my favorites because of this.
But again...like "cladking" has said...after that...it felt like the journey was complete.
