Nice one Mrit. Yes, clearer pictures might have been nice.

Similarly, most collectors of German coins know that modern Pfennig/Mark coins had A, D, E, F, G, J mintmarks

Thanks for reminding me Pertinax.

1950 G German 50 pfennig.

With dots either side of pfennig

Without dots. (rare), but on my want list.
The wording is different too.

Without wishing to offend anyone, the Bank Deutscher Lander and Bundesrepublik Deutschland 50 pfennigs are not the same and so shouldn't be in this thread, any more than the 2 different designs of the 1916 US dime.

They are different designs issued by different authorities.

Bank Deutscher Lander was a consortium of the central banks in each of the West German states, whereas the standard coins issued 1950 onwards were issued under the authority of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The 1950G dated Bank Deutscher Lander 50 pfennigs was struck without authorisation by someone in the mint using genuine dies and is very rare.

It meets the same year, same metal specification, but I stand corrected. Thanks for the info Pertinax, and I am not offended. This is how we learn.

In 1957 The Royal Mint made a subtle change to the reverse of the bronze British halfpenny. Up until then, the waves on the sea under the ship had been virtually straight lines. From 1957 until the last issue in 1967 (and the 1970 proof), the waves were sharper and distinctly more 'wavy'. There are two varieties of 1957 halfpenny, the scarcer 'Flat Sea' and the common 'Wavy Sea'. Not all catalogs list both types, even though the Flat Sea variety has been known about since the 1960s.
