Its been said: " It seems the US Mint is going to strike 230 of the gold version with "230" privy and auction them on Dec. 12th. "

So Tomorrow will be the Auctioning off, .....

To me While exciting, Its Sad too.

Sad indeed.

Before you know it, the states will be sponsoring lotteries.

440K. Even if I was very rich I wouldn't spend that much on a modern coin.

Hey Coinfrog, I have one of those dolls LOL, released 1997 and quickly recalled. I bought it just before they were pulled off the shelves. As I remember kids were getting their fingers stuck in the dolls mouth. I bought one for my mom, told her to keep it safe but she let the grand girls play with it.

On 11/15, I thought (and posted) #1 would go for $250K or more. . .didn't think it would be nearly $200K more.

I can recall people banging on Wayne Gretzky when he bought a Honus Wagner T-206 for $451K in 1991. He sold it four years later for $500K. Other Wagners have sold for more than a $1MM.

I wonder if the buyer of FHG # 1 will have the same (or better) success ?

Coin #56, a PRF-70 example, sold at S-B auction for $35K. . .it's already listed on ebay for $49,999 "or best offer. " Same seller has a pre-sale of a PRF-69 example for $35,999.

Average selling price of the 45 PRF 69's: $28,022.22. Lowest- $25,000. Highest- $34,000

Thanks Capt,

I am amazed the Prices these " collectibles " are Bringing ...

With that kind of cash flow, I Imagine I would gather some of the Best Examples of the 1792 Disme, 1794 Dollar, the 1804 Dollar, the 1895 Morgan Proof, the 1915 Pan Am. I Think I would be better off.......

ps, Of course I would run out of $$$$ before this list of mine above gets to the end.

Personally I would rather have a 1795 gold coin than a modern replica. It would be about the same price as what these were going for. And considering that they didn't even make gold coins in 1794...
these 230 gold privys went for about 8 million total, that is just crazy to me.

The total sales price of the 45 PRF-69's: $1,261,000. Average price ea: $28,022.00

The total sales price of 185 PRF-70's: $8,651,000. If you take out Coins #1 and #230, the remaining 183 examples sold for an average of $35,218.00

Total Sales of the 230 coins: $9,912,000. Would guess the S-B folks are pleased, but not as much pleasure had they been able to tack on a 15 or 20% buyers premium. Likely there are quants at the USM ecstatic over proving the business case for minting super-low numbers of "collectible" coins.

Sad state of affairs.
