@GMS5, lemme look at that coin again but thought I saw an 'S' above the 'D O' on the back. I haven't figured out how to quote a post, sorry.

Thanks @Spence! Quote:Perhaps a typo? there was no 1921-S Peace dollar. May be going into too much detail for this exploratory post, but here's a photo of the 1921 front then detailed back that looks like 'S'. This photo is detailed back of 2nd 1921 that looks like 'D'. My 3rd 1921 has no mark above the 'D O' on the back.

...this is indeed an 1921-S, but that's a Morgan dollar, not a Peace dollar. EDIT: both kinds of dollars were issued in 1921; they're distinguished by the design.

ZanderMan81, I agree only use 100% pure acetone,no water rinse. Your pic is pretty good, but one front and one back pic along with one or two close ups when and where needed. Also, only one coin per thread. I am guessing you are not going to look for errors or varieties? John1

to CCF. that first image of the Indian Head cent is pretty good. just get the focus a bit better, then you can start by posting up your coins (both sides) But please, only one coin per topic - yes there will be lots of topics to post, but it will make it much easier to answer any question about each coin with out confusion.

to the CCF Should be fun to help you figure out what you have. Agree your photo skills appear to be adequate already - perhaps work a bit on better focus.

Thanks, that was a pretty quick & dirty attempt, agree a bit out of focus. Plus scaling down to the image limit makes it interesting. I have a lot of posts to make. biggest question is how to assess value. I know most are bullion and that's probably to be expected. Just tryna figure out if I have anything special. Yeah I have a lot of work ahead of me but getting to the end of my 'things to do when I retire' list so this percolated back to the top. Quote:Re: Indian Head cent - Possibly a long soak in acetone would help. Sounds like I need to pick up some acetone. Have never used it. I appreciate all the patience in bringing a noob up to speed, it's a new arena for me!

Post them on ccf before any acetoning. That 1928 can be valuable and better get feedback before messing a valuable coin up. Every new scratch can lower value on a ms coin same with hot lips.

Seriously, there is no need to clean the coins with anything.

Great advice here, just what I was hoping to find! Looks like CCF is a treasure in itself.

My first interactions with the CCF were spurred by dealing with coins from an estate and inherited coins. The experts in the community were patient and generous with their help. Hope you have the same experience. Best success with your project, ZanderMan.
