@chm, ok well it is always good to pick up some Australian slang, so thank you hfor helping me learn something today. For the etymology nerds out there, here is what the OED says about "ta" along with its first use (where "tar" is evidently a variant of "ta"): Quote: Etymology: Perhaps originally representing a child's pronunciation of thank you phr. colloq. An infantile form of: thank you. Now also commonly in adult use.
1772 M. Delany Autobiogr. & Corr. (1862) 2nd Ser. I. 457 You would not say 'Ta' to me for my congratulation.

Quote: Tar means thank you? Quote: yes ...sorry mate Frog, you need to get outside of your bubble and meet some people from around the world! Working for company with an international presence and world-wide sales team has had its advantages. For what is worth, even my pom bother-in-law says tar (or ta).

Quote: some would say here in australia ...tada...slang for catch ya later mate very nice - maybe it holds the same meaning in Welsh too.. The only thing I know about the Welsh language is that if you aren't spitting as you speak, you ain't saying it right.. (A native Welshman told me that once)
