I have learned to appreciate all things Ike. In the past, I might have cringed.

How can that be certified and not be considered a coin damaged post mint?

Exactly ,I think it is rediculous we are all proud of US team win, but this is not even authentic mint production!! PCGS is going too far with these stuff.
This Ike is not in original state anymore and I agree with being a damaged coin and I'm sure there will be many who'd like to own this as novelty.

That second one looks awful. The stamp "bleeds" through onto the obverse.

I received mine today

The reverse was fine but the obverse was in pretty bad shape

I was able to clean up most of it but it still needs a little attention

I say collect what you enjoy - and good for you Boba Debt that you found something appealing for you.

I have absolutely no issue with what Mel Wacks has done to these coins - or those who collect them.

I do however strongly disagree that PCGS is certifying them in problem free grades.

These are damaged coins and will always remain damaged coins.

We seem to have entered a new era where PCGS - by certifying this coin as MS - are somehow bowing to some new, unknown to me, demand for fantasy coins.

Who can explain it?

I've been thinking about this........
Let's say you have a first addition of a comic book. "Gem", signed by Stan Lee. Would it get graded "Details" "Graffiti"?

As an Olympic fan, I like the counterstamp and think it looks cool, especially on such a large proof coin. I don't know that counterstamps necessarily "Detail" a coin, and I think the grade is warranted. What PCGS should not have done is label the coin as 1980. They should have properly listed it as 1971-S and noted the 1980 counterstamp elsewhere on the label.
