Last chance today to get your guesses in! How much did I spend on this coin? $42 or $500 or somewhere in between?

Congrats to perfessor for the round win. @Spence - I would enjoy hearing something about how you came to this coin. And anything you care to share about this fascinating 1412 coin. I know you are acknowledged as a significant contributor to the numismatic knowledge of ancient coin collectors. The season leaderboard is crowded with 11 players within 10 points of the gold medal spot. Best of guessing to all of you.

Sure glad to share @nic. I think that this pick-up fits in the vein that LCS's take care of their good customers. I've been buying coins from one of my sources for more than a decade--maybe closer to two decades by now and often joke that I've put his kids through college with my purchases. A couple years back, he purchased a collection of early dated coins from a NY-based collector and offered me first refusal on them. I got to pick through and select what I wanted before he listed them in his catalog.
This Groschen was among those that I picked up. According to Levinson, the rarity level suggests somewhere between 21 and 50 coins extant for collectors. I do note that acsearch has listed ten of them (11 listings, but one is a duplicate) so most likely the number is toward the top end of that figure. Most all of them have one or more chips on the edge. My coin of course has that unfortunate fold/crease as well as a small edge chip. The market for these is somewhat thin so pricing is always a bit hard to pin down. I do note that in aVF condition, this coin is listed at $400 in the price supplement by Levinson. The condition lowers that somewhat so for my coin so $326 seemed to be a reasonable price.
