One thing I expect is for the mint to score an exemption to the Executive Order and continue cent production for mint and proof sets at least for a few years. It's too much profit for them to walk away from. Money talks!

My prediction: we will do a Canada. We will stop making new cents, old cents will circulate, and most businesses will just round up or down for cash transactions. Nobody in broader society will notice or really complain.
Plausible.

Maybe the US Mint should just use steel in coinage like Canada. Though I don't know if steel is cheaper than copper and nickel.
I assume you mean for then nickel, because the cent cannot be saved. Canada ending their plated steel cent thirteen years ago proves that.

I concur and I am sure there will be no argument from the administration when thy see the profit they make from uncirculated and proof sets.

Collector coins are going nowhere including the cent. It's a profitable business making products that are in demand. The cent will live on but only as a special, collector version. The mint actually has a ton of freedom in deciding which products they'll make. We've even seen the successful return designs from many of the classics. A commemorative Wheat cent in the original composition should be coming soon! Get on it US mint!!!

Stroke of genius! US Mint Commemorative Penny Set (15 coin):

One of each Cent type set starting with the 1793 design all in their original metal compositions. Plus, the NIFC 2026 shield cent in bronze. They would sell out before they were made! $$$$$$$$

Spread the rumor, it might come true!

Large cents:

Flowing Hair Chain 1793
Flowing Hair Wreath 1793
Liberty Cap 1793-1796
Draped Bust 1796-1807
Classic Head 1808-1814
Coronet 1816-1839
Braided Hair 1839-1857, 1868 (not a regular issue)
Small cents:

Flying Eagle cent (1856-1858)
Indian Head cent (1859-1909)
Lincoln Cent (1909-present)
Lincoln Wheat (1909-1958)
Lincoln Memorial (1959-2008)
Lincoln Bicentennial 4 reverse designs (2009)
Lincoln Union Shield[9] (2010-present)

Indian head penny: lasted 50 years
Wheat penny: lasted 50 years
Memorial penny: lasted 49 years + 2009
Shield penny: didn't make it

I was always wondering what new penny design would come out in 2059.

At this point, the American system is in shock mode, including the treasury. I don't think there will be any sooner discussion about the coins' future design and release. A mass firing and laying off might destroy this department's productivity. "DOGE" is now trying to change the treasury payment system. They want the treasury payment system to be run by "blockchain." What is next? Potential digital cash, Dogecoin, crypto payment, bitcoins, etc.

"Blockchain," I called it, is an open system. This means everyone can see transactions and perhaps make changes. Vulnerable to hackers.
I am hoping the US Treasury will not adopt blockchain.

Disagree, "blockchain" is a ledger system which is surely vastly superior to anything the government uses now. Don't just associate it with bitcoin, people lose their bitcoins due to foolishness and attrition. It doesn't have anything to do with blockchain itself. This is worth reading:

Maybe for non-financial applications, it will work. But in financial applications, there is higher risk. Current blockchain financial applications lack of consumer protection.; for users and the vast financial systems. Also, we need to consider we are not talking about dollar tree store files. It will take years to put/write an application this huge together. Just my simple understanding. "GOTE" is using "permission-less" tactics. Meaning you don't need permission from anyone or anybody to make changes. Just starts deleting files. Also, the current administration requested CFPB to discontinue its work and shut down this agency. Go figure.

I must admit. I just added myself to the subscription list for the Proof and mint sets for 2025. First time I will be purchasing these sets in over a decade.
