I like the 1880-S! But from all those hairlines in the fields, it looks like the 1878 has been cleaned. (Could be die polishing lines, but it seems rather severe for that. ) I probably harp on this a lot on CCF, but I always advise looking for wholesome, problem-free coins. You're building a lovely set thus far, so IMO it would be best to pick another example, especially for the costs you're incurring by resubmitting it. Just my thoughts, if they're helpful.

The reason that my 1878-P looks like it does is because it is circulated (which is why it got an AU when it was sent to PCGS though it was overgraded at AU 58 when I bought it) and it also has PL or Semi-PL felids which I find to bring out and enhance any marks or dings it has. So, I personally believe that it isn't cleaned and that it just suffers from being a well circulated coin while having a pretty reflective Obverse and Reverse.

My only recommendation is don't ignore the key dates, be on the lookout for deals too good to pass up. You might find a bargain lower grade coin that has the look that you desire.

Fantastic set you are building here! I went the Date/MM route as well. I wish I had been more meticulous early on as I have some less than desirable coins in the album. It's definitely a long road to finish this!

Here's my most recent purchase. I bought this 1883-P from GC a week or two ago and I paid 88.88 (w/ BP).
