I bought 50 sets and went through them in the 7 days alotted for return by the Mint. I was planning on sending in the cents for grading, but the best ones I received were probably PR68! My boxes where labeled as "Packed on 5/8/2009 5:23 PM" so I figured they had to be relatively first run strikes. Most of them had one coin in the four holders that looked decent but the other ones looked horrible with lint, red string, hair, dust, black marks, scratches, pitting, and discoloration (too soon to be toning). The cents were really discouraging all most all of them hand some grease or water spots on them. I kind of question if they were copper after seeing white (zinc) looking places on a few where the proof finish was gouged/chipped.

So much for my impression that the proof sets are assembled in dust free gloved environment! Hope the Silver and Mint State sets are better!

I sent all but three back, which were 1 decent set and 2 so-so sets with atleast one or two coins per holder having a minor issue.

I've now bought six of these sets from the Denver Mint Gift Shop, and none of the coins in any of them have had any major problems. They've all been solid PR 67-68 coins that look good to the naked eye, and the friends that I bought them for are very happy with them.

It does makes you wonder if the 'good' sets are sent to the Denver and Philadelphia Mint Gift Shops, since after all you can inspect the Set right there in the shop....
