Quote: i don't think that gold will be this 'cheap' again for a while. we'll see. I don't have a crystal ball, just a feeling. I go with my gut. Which is why I assume I will probably never own any gold.

Quote: Wonder if any of those proceeds were diversified into Au? an interesting thought. just for fun, I took the 9 billion figure and converted it into physical gold- 1kg bars. I wondered how many 1kg bars I could get with 9 billion. according to JMBullion, a 1kg bar is $115,750 (i rounded up slightly from 741 to 750). so 9 billion divided by $115,750. that's more than 77 thousand, approaching 78 thousand 1kg bars. that's quite a stack. actually, that's a hoard. I wondered what something like that would look like, so I googled it. I found pictures of differing amounts in the billions. huge piles of gold bars, in warehouse vaults. the 'forklift method' of stacking gold comes to mind. i have about 4 ounces. I might have a crack at this...

This seems important and it was even before the recent run up in price.

Poland recently bought 90 tons gold. This bitcoin bro with just 1 billion from his recent sale could buy about 10 tons gold.

Gold reserves of central banks have not changed much. Some foolish governments sold theirs, other bought. That change in relative value is because with gold more expensive its value as percentage of reserves rose. Money as debt lost faith compared to assets in possession. Defaulting on debts whatever name it is called can have that consequence. I will not manage to complete a full collection of coin types for my country. No longer hope to see gold come down until world politics settle. A long way to go.

yeah... I've been thinking about my type album's gold page, too. I was able to at least get the two quarter eagles. I could still acquire the pair of dollar coins, type l & lll, at some point, the sooner the better, but it's not likely to happen soon, which means it may not happen at all. the half eagles and larger are becoming out of reach. the gold price is running away and taking some coins with it. on the one hand, seeing what I have appreciate is terrific. on the other hand, the coins I still don't have may never arrive.
gold touched $3700 once or twice today. up up up it goes... $4,000 gold by christmas 2025?

Oh I think we're all done MrPink. The pin has pricked the balloon.
You may quote me.
At any rate my interest in gold has been at hold for months. Collectable coins look more affordable and interesting.

Quote: Oh I think we're all done MrPink. The pin has pricked the balloon. Well, seeing as how gold just went back above $3700, I don't think we're all done quite yet. Soon, perhaps, but not yet.

Well unless peace comes to the world, economic conditions stabilize, Govt. and personal debt is erased, countries stop buying it by the pallet full, and we all start giving and getting groups hugs, expect gold to continue to rise as it always has and probably always will. I think $4 K gold "before" Christmas and without question if I had the dough in loose cash I'd still be buying it.

For every rise, a fall will follow. Be careful if you considering to invest.
I started buying gold coins when I was a teenager. I am in my late 70's now. To me, from a strictly numismatic point of view, gold is just another coinage metal. Never into bullion coin gold.
