Back above $52! Gold seems to be a bit stagnant, but silver might just be taking off again.

It doesn't need to rocket. A gradual rise would be preferred. A steep rise is normally followed by a sharp fall. Right now, it is setting higher lows, moving hopefully to higher highs.

GS now 78.48:1. Looks like silver is starting to move up faster than gold.

When America made silver a "critical metal", I believe, it was the last check box needed to check to assure its future. And of course every possible data point was already implicit but this was just icing on the cake that there was just no denying the importance of the white metal for its next generation Industrial/Military technology . There is no denying it no matter the dips it takes in the near future.

Good luck finding it at those lower prices! Most dealers just bought a bunch at higher prices and have now added steep premiums as the prices fall back down to keep from losing money. Prices would have to stay down for quite a while (months, perhaps) before you would have the opportunity to take advantage of those lower prices.

I am thinking long-term and want to get the most I can on a per ounce basis. I honestly don't get why people are celebrating silver going up from the low $20s in the early part of last year to $50+ now. Unless you're planning to unload right around the corner, you should want lower prices. I would be thrilled if it got back down into the low $40s but I get the impression that many here would complain. Makes no sense to me as I am guessing most here aren't looking to unload at the moment.

Well, I am mostly holding onto silver for the long term, but in my case I pretty much already have all I'm ever planning on buying. Yeah, yeah, I know -- you can never have enough silver, except I really have run out of space to store any more at this point. As a result, the higher it goes the more excited I get.

Having said that, though, when silver first hit $40 a few months ago I did sell about $10,000 worth of junk silver that I purchased years ago when silver was under $20. And when I go to next year's coin show I'll probably try to sell a similar quantity of remaining junk silver purchased at the same time assuming silver prices are still up. I like to do this at coin shows because I can easily use the proceeds to buy collectible coins directly from the dealers I'm selling to.
