Well, now that I've seen the future I'm looking for the flux capacitor to my Delorean time machine so I can go back to when it was in the $20's and back the truck up.

And away we go into overnight trading! Gold is getting perilously close to $5000, and silver is back above $97.
For now...

We know that silver had a nice run in 1980, and then again in 2011. And both times the bubble burst and silver came crashing down. But maybe this time it's different. Maybe silver will hold its value and continue this current run with normal corrections along the way. You know, two steps forward, one step back, and so on. And sure, that's going to hinder many collectors ability to buy silver coins like the way we used to, but maybe we just have to get used to the new norm. Or maybe not.

For the last 3 years I've been asking a friend of mine to let me meet with her Dad about this "collection" that he had. Kinda of just to say...theses are common and theses are keepers...you know! Well now at 94 he died the other day (God rest his soul). Now she wants me to look at it. I just wanted to talk to this old timer and ask ...how and why? Dang it! Guess I'll just buy it all without the story. Bum's me out... Just thought I'd share. I'll let you know what it contained. smat

Quote: I just wanted to talk to this old timer and ask ...how and why? Sorry to hear that one of the most fascinating things about listening to old timers is hearing the stories of what the prices were for key dates and gold coins back then and how easy it was to find Indian Head cents and Buffalo nickels in pocket change.. Reminds me of when I was around 13 (early 1980's) there was an old timer that sort of introduced my buddy and I into coin collecting. One day he showed us a Whitman Folder with an almost complete Indian Head penny collection, every one of them was RED Brilliant Uncirculated and a $20 Gold BU St. Gaudens double eagle, don't remember the date, but it was the most beautiful coin I had ever seen. The following Saturday he invited us to come along to a coin shop, at a mall in NJ, to purchase the last coin he needed to finish his Indian head collection. For the life of me I can't remember which date but I assume it was a key date. All I know is that we were there to see him negotiate with the dealer and walked away with the final Red BU cent for his collection. He passed away at least 30 years ago and I could only imagine what those coins are worth today. It's too bad your friends dad isn't here to tell you but I think you'll glean something about the "how and the why" just from looking at all what he collected.
