My elder brother's first car was an old Mini. The windshield demister didn't work very well. He unscrewed it and found about 40 coins inside. Some bored kid must have been left in the car while Mom was in the shops, and spent their time feeding the change from the cup holder into the slits below the windshield.

About 10 years ago I bought a car at an estate sale. On the back dash were 3 big bibles. Much later I looked through them. One of them had four $2 bills tucked away. 1976 deuces, not red seal.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I posted this coin in another thread about 4 years ago... In 1976 I was doing a French language course in Lyon, France. In that city there is a long, steep set of concrete steps leading from the downtown area to the Fourviere district, on a hilltop above the city. When walking up these steps one day, I found this 1855-A 5-centime coin lying on the ground. This coin had been demonetised 42 years earlier and would have probably disappeared from circulation in the 1920s. What was it doing on a modern concrete stairway in the 1970s?

As a veteran change scrounger who's contributed a fair amount to the found money thread, here are some of mine:
- Lots of change wedged into dorm room HVAC vents, most of it nasty. - A quarter on top of a riding floor scrubber that blended in well with the machine itself. - Wedged so deeply behind/underneath vending machines that I've had to use my laptop power cord as a tool for fishing them out. - On sparsely traveled nature trails, blending in with the dirt or gravel. - Convenience store bathrooms (gross).
And that's just off the top of my head.

I inherited my Virginian great-great grandfather's tiny little leather coin purse. In 130 years nobody thought to look inside it. I found inside neatly folded in small squares a $10 and a $20 Confederate bill. Everybody always assumed it was empty as no coins could be felt inside it.
