I find it a real shame that younger collectors who have no money aren't going to be able to rely on it for a easily filled folder every couple of decades.
Some of us here may have started collecting around 8 to 10 years of age....ponder this I got a feeling kids around that age in this time and age when they become the working class they won't even carry cash in their pockets...

The mint was quite clear this is not the final cent, it's the final cent for circulation...

United States Mint Hosts Historic Ceremonial Strike for Final Production of the Circulating One-Cent Coin

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 12, 2025 — The United States Mint (Mint) hosted a ceremonial strike event today at its Philadelphia facility where United States Treasurer Brandon Beach struck the final, circulating one-cent coin (penny). The event marks the official end of the penny's 232-year production run as a circulating coin.

Quote:
The Mint will continue to produce numismatic versions of the penny in limited quantities for historical and collector purposes.

Now they can start selling "Special Lincoln cents" at a high price and possibly add a privy to them over time...

You must have missed the Omega privy yesterday. Not explicitly mentioned in the link, but several pictures, including the die: https://apnews.com/article/us-mint-...af98e9677380

I'm definitely sad to see it go. I'm really happy I filled out the majority of my Dansco #7100 album when I did, though. That was definitely fun.
Jefferson nickels and Lincoln cents, Wheats in particular, are my favorite coin series to collect and coin roll hunt for.

For people who have been into the hobby for years and that are older than me, I guess I could understand why people hate "Zincoln" cents. I have yet to see any actual issues with mine that I have, though. I've cherry picked some pretty decent ones I think since 1982. I'd say a good number of them are probably AU.

"Despite its discontinuation, the penny will remain legal tender and retain its value indefinitely, according to the Treasury Department. There are approximately 300 billion pennies still in circulation, far exceeding the amount needed for commerce."

Some stores in my area have stopped taking cent coins but do not price all items in even five cent amounts. That seems inconsistent. From what I've seen, their rounding seems fair to consumers in that an item priced, say, 29 cents will cost the customer only 25.

As others have said, I am saddened by the move by the mint, but understand the reasons.

If the mint had waited another week, it would have been the anniversary of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

No surprise - most transactions are made by cards now a days anyhow.

Sales tax will mess that all up anyway.

well if the Mint continues to make them for collectors in sets, then the LAST one has NOT been struck yet..

So lets see if the mint will continue with them in the sets or not.
