would you guys recommend that I take it to a LCS first to have them look at it, or send it straight off to be graded? Also, would ANACS be the best place to grade, or should I spend more on something like PCGS or NGC?

Taking it to a coin shop still doesn't verify it it as genuine. Not everybody that owns a coin shop is a counterfeit expert.
Yes - ANACS would be the most economical - A $40 verification is just as good as a $100 verification.

I agree, the ANACS wou;d be a good choice for verifying. However I have serious doubts about authenticity of this piece, the mint mark and grainy reverse are big red flags, I do not believe it is a real deal.

Might not be a bad idea for a LCS to take a look. Some of them also do bulk TPG submissions that you might be able to piggyback on. Can't hurt to ask.

here are the costs to grade a coin

PCGS charges a minimum of $69 for a subscription other subscription levels include grading vouchers though so you could reduce these costs. add to the subscription cost, per coin grading cost which is a minimum of $23, shipping & ins both ways (1-4 coins is $27 if the total value is under $1000)

NGC - economy grading tier is $22, plus $10 handling fee, plus $28 for shipping (1-5 coins) and insurance both ways.

ANACS - Economy - No Gold: $18 per item for items valued up to $500. plus $29 for shipping (1-4 coins) and insurance both ways.

CAC - $99 subscription ($50 grading credit), economy grading $15, gold $28, $40 shipping/handling/ins
