A bench vise with wood blocks to protect the coins and act as guides and a fine tooth hacksaw work very well on smaller coins. Freeing standard silver dollars from plastic prisons can be a bit more artsy.

nice work shop Marv, but why use the band saw on the ANACS slabs? they easily pop open with a large flat screw driver.

Because I'm a woodworker not a "Hammer Mechanic"!

When you are a hammer woodworker everything is a nail wood.

He could not read my coins through the slabs so I had to jailbreak them at his shop with end cutters

I guess I'll have to try the vice trick on a different coin in the future

Boba,

Wrap the slab in an old soft towel, Lock the slab in sideways, each side on a Vice jaw, along the side seams, Slowly turn inward till the First pop or crack.

Judge for yourself how far you'll have to go before using a Slotted screwdriver to finish popping open the slab, between the two tight plastic faces, Wear safety glasses, Best Wishes

Yes - so if you have pets be extra careful - a plastic shard in the eye or if lodged in their paws if stepped on could become a major problem.

Which is why I wrapped my slab with paper towels.
