Added point: "Substantially not as described" will cover this, in the absence of a warning tat it wasn't a stock picture.

mmmmm...same exact coin as the website photo, says it is from a mid-atlantic collector, ebay seller is from Mississippi...."their mother was an avid collector" One feedback in the last few months...sending up red flags. Hopefully you get your money back or the right coin! Sorry man.

I'm going to wait for the seller to respond first and see what they say.

In a nutshell "I know nothing about coins, so return it"

Which is what I'll be doing.

So did he just think he could use a stock photo for a coin sale? Was the coin he sent you the same date even?

I actually find that a believable explanation in this instance.

There's not a whole lot of space left between this seller and a Negative for this transaction, though, and that's coming from someone who cannot stand to see a seller left an undeserved Negative.

That's what they told me, basically. "My mother died and I had to sell her collection, and don't have a camera".

I can't take it anymore. Ok, so the very nature of ebay lends itself well to such rip offs - and I'm sorry, that's what it is - but its getting so every loophole is exploited no matter what the ebay folks do to close it.

A polished VF. Great. Get your money back. PLEASE let us know how this turns out.

I read the story. What a bummer. I'm sorry that happened to you shadow.

Checked out the seller, and it looks like they have another much lower grade 1819 for sale:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1819-Capped-Bus...34d68QQitemZ320393661800QQptZCoinsQ5fUSQ5fIndividualQQ

Am I correct in assuming that this is the one that was sent to you?!?
If so, OUCH! However, it is good that the seller returned your money without a fight. After reading the description on the latest piece, I do believe the seller was not intentionally trying to be deceitful. They were very descriptive about the coins potential problems in this new listing, though it appears they really know nothing about coins. Anyways, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and write it off as a lesson learned when dealing with high value raw coins on ebay with someone with very little feedback/no numismatic knowlege. Hopefully you can get the shipping back, but $13 wouldn't get me too wound up compared to what you could have been out.

It's hard to believe, but some people truly don't understand the critical role that grade and eye appeal play in the value of the coins we work so hard to acquire. It's sad, but it appears that you gave the seller a serious education lesson...
