What do I collect? 1. First off I have my world coin collection, where I am trying to get at least one coin from every country. I have 220 different countries so far, and still plenty to go. I also collect different types and designs of the coins from these various countries. 2. Then there is the Australian Pre-Decimal collection, which still needs a lot of work. 3. My largest collection is the Australian Decimals and Non-Circulating Legal Tender collection. Here is where the Proof and UNC sets and collector coins come in and where I spend my money. 4. My second largest collection is USA coins. I collect what you guys spend every day, and I'm not fussy about the quality. I'll post my want list shortly, LOL. 5. I have a EURO collection, (one of each denomination from each of the countries) still need a few from Finland. 6. A Great Britain one-pound collection (as they have different designs) again the quality isn't there but the designs are. Still need a few. 7. Any cheap old coin from 1910 or before. The reason for this date is that Australia used British coins before that date. 8. I'm just getting started on a Japanese coin collection started. It is very much a scattergun approach to coin collecting. I try not to spend alot of money by buying lower grade coins and lower denominations, as I still get the thrill of the history of the country, the designs and the times. I collect as a Hobby and not as an investment. I have given away and traded a few coins but have not been able to bring myself to sell one yet. LOL. I've seen some interesting TOKENS but have avoided buying any, as I tell myself over and over "I don't collect Tokens", "I don't collect Tokens", "I don't collect Tokens". I have tried this method also with Paper money with Limited success.

Most of the artifacts of course are in museums or private hands, but I have had the opportunity to purchase a few pieces of coal. I am very much a history buff, and love all things that can be traced back to significant happenings. Some not so significant also. Usually I end up back to the money, but love to get side tracked in museums. If anyone finds that they are traveling to the Dover, Delaware area, please be sure to stop at the Bower's Beach Maritime Museum. Of course, I have displays there. Really a neat place that offers many recovered items from the many shipwrecks littering the Delaware coastline.
That would be so cool! Hopefully some of the stuff from the Titanic will hopefully slowly make it's way out. Geeze i'd sell off my entire coin collection if I could get my hands on say a Titanic plate or spoon or something. (It'd probably cost enough). The Titanic captivated me as a child and everytime I see any Titanic programme on the TV it gets watched, usually several times. I have come across stuff from the Olympic being sold off on the internet too. I seriously though of buying a piece of Olympic cutlery. History has always painted the Olympic as the successful survivor out of the Three Olympic class ships (Olympic, Titanic and Britannic). But when you actually think about it out of those three ships the Olympic is the only one that doesn't exist anymore (scrapped alongside the legendary Cunard liner Mauritania in 1936/7). The Titanic sailed off to become a legend one April night in 1912, and the Britannic I believe holds the record (or did) as the largest ship on the bottom of the ocean and she's in relatively good shape. And has proved more useful as the largest man made home of more kinds of coral and general sea life than anything going. Unless of course you believe Robin Gardiner and then it's actually the Olympic that met the fateful iceberg on the night of April 14th... I must admit there is some credible evidence for this but it's somewhat open to interpretation. Plus he really did take it too far with his collision theory.

Hi Gang,
I thought I better add my tid bit in here as well.
My main thrust is U.S. Coins dated before 1964, SAE, and 1 regular proof set and 3 mint sets each year. My favorite is the Liberty Head Nickel (I own 4 complete sets). Next to that is Indian haed Cents and then 3 cent nickels.
I collect uncirculating foreign coins, pre-euro, from Europe and I love Canadian coins pre 1968.

I have several collections at present, and will be paring them down somewhat. US: Type Set (Dansco Album) Half Cents by date Large Cents by date UK: Victoria Type Set George IV Type Set Florins by type Shillings by type Plus type sets for Canada and Australia, and (if that wasn't enough!!!) an OFEC collection that makes me crazy. I'll be dropping most of 'em including the US stuff to focus on the collections from Great Britain.

Sounds like you have got quite a series going. With all that your going to get a real good historic background on these. Nice going.

What items from Vegas are you looking for or collect.? Since I live in Vegas I may be able to help you out.

Well, I have a number of collections: 1) Circulated Lincoln Cents 1909-1929 by date and MM, completed; 2) BU/PF Lincoln Cents 1930-2005 by date and MM, completed; 3) Circulated US Half Dollars 1794-2005 by date and MM, complete from 1916-2005; 4) "Holed" Dansco 7070 US Type Set, just started; 5) Circulated Merury Dimes 1916-1945 by date and MM, missing 18 coins; 6) Circulated Liberty nickels 1883-1912 by date and MM, missing 13 coins; 7) Finally, my most recently started collection...an Ultimate US Type Set. This set includes every official USA coin type and MM combination from 1/2¢ through $100 platinum bullion, 1793-2005. There are currently 668 coins needed to complete the sets and I have only about 100 of them right now (my start was a near complete 7070 set), so this is definately a long term project. I intend to try to do a good job with this set, meaning that many of the coins will be MS/PF and the really expensive ones I will try to stay at XF or better. I expect this set to consume the better part of my coin budget for most of the rest of my collecting life (I'm 27 now, so I still got a ways to go), but I'm really looking forward to the chase!

I am a full time coin currency and bullion dealer, but I don't collect any of them. I decided when I wanted to do this for a living that it wouldn't be fair to my customers or my checkbook if I kept the better stuff for myself...so I sell everything I buy, and sometimes that makes me very sad. I do have a few coins from my childhood that have no real value, but I don't actively collect coins. I do however collect palm trees. My Florida yard is sprinkled with a wide variety of palms, some exotic, some common. I'm eagerly seeking a Caryota Gigas, if anyone has a duplicate they wouldn't mind parting with Here's a picture of me working in my yard Here's a picture of me when it's raining and I can't play in the yard Hope now y'all know a little more about me. Nick

ummm... I doubt it. His collection included many great rarities in fabulous condition, while mine (with a few exceptions) is much more affordable. Looking over the list there are nine coins that currently sell for more than $25k in XF and only 2 that are over 100K (1861 Paquet Reverse Double Eagle and the 1849 C Open Wreath $1 Gold). Both of those are probably forever outside my budget, but I can dream, right edit:I went and counted and it looks like only 85 coins from the set (of 670 total) list at $1000 or more in XF, so if I save those for last then I have 585 coins that are reasonable to get, before I have to start worrying about the exspensive stuff.
