I shudder when I think about how much hard earned money has been spent on things like this.

Thanks for the affirmation Affirmation. The killer was this: After she gave it to me I told her never to buy anything like this again. That it's a waste of money and time and if you just give me cash I'll find a decent coin. Well Christmas 2008 came along and I had another gift from her. You guessed - more gold replicas! Here they are: She paid $100 for this "National Collectors Mint" set! We had a long conversation after this gift was given to me. She said she would never order from them again but now they were sending her certified mail solicitations that she had to sign for! Oh well! Anybody want it? $15 delivered......

Yeah...those coins just aren't as exciting with the big words "COPY" over them, LOL! Sad when you can't even give away a coin isn't it? Have you tried listing them on ebay?

Thank You for you the posted information regarding the 50dollarbuffalo coin advertised on TV. I was excited about the cost and about starting a liitle gold investment but had done earlier research on the internet and went to do more and that is how I came upon this community.I'm glad I did and decided against buying those coins.I am really very knew to all this but I do believe in doing research and asking questions. Does anyone know how to go about buying a real gold bar in an ounce size or is it better to invest in gold coins?
Thank You, Sal

I don't think they make gold bars in 1 oz. sizes. You would probably want to focus on bullion coins as they are intended to be the 1 oz. "gold bar" in effect. If you bought an actual 50 dollar buffalo gold bullion coin you'd be doing fine. The only thing we were warning you about was the fake coins being sold in those ads.
In other words, that website/tv ad was not inventing the concept of the $50 gold buffalo, they were making a copy of an actual coin made by the US mint. The difference being that the one made by the US Mint is pure gold while the one you were looking at was only covered in a minuscule amount of gold.

I saw those Gold Bugffalo's tonight on TV myself and thought "boy oh boy I hope no one buys those things thinking they are real gold" because their pitch was pretty good talking about how high precious metals were right now then they threw in that this was so many mm's of pure gold over something worthless and I was hoping everyone would hear that and know it wasn't a real 50.00 gold piece because it looked just like a real Gold Buffalo except it had copy on the Indian and instead of Pure gold it has the thickness of gold

Wanted to ask if the United State Mint the only really good place to buy real bullion gold coins or are other places reliable like Blanchard or Monex. And possibly ebay?I noticed the prices on Blanchard a little less than the US Mint by a couple hundred dollars. Thanks, Sal

Much of my gold coinage is from ebay purchases. Most of the balance is from APMEX and BST on Collector's Universe. APMEX has decent prices and if you want strictly bullion, they are hard to beat.

Interesting, they put out the 31 mg of gold statement because most people have no clue how little gold that really is. You have to admit, they really don't say anything that's not true. It's as if the whole thing was done by a lawyer.

Thanks, Sal Please don't buy from Monex. They don't have the best business practices. Always research a company before buying from them. I've had good experiences on ebay, look for sellers with good feedback, they sell predominately in coins/bullion, and they are not from Asia.
