I asked him why it was cancelled, his reply was that he sold this privately as a collector made him an offer..

If he sold it to a collector, he has another. Identicle.

i think fioti is saying the "buyer" already owns this coins twin (whichever coin struck this one to create the "error")... maybe I'm wrong

are you suggesting that the buyer owns the 1964 5 cent piece used to make this contraption?

No no. I was just stating that if this coin does exist, there is likely a similar one out there (whatever coin got jammed up with this one at the Mint).

@hhbkiddo... I might take it as a challenge but I wouldn't want to risk anything I hand built getting out into the wild and being pawned off like this one was.

That copper was the colour of an annealed blank
experiment- take a penny that era, heat it to red hot and let it cool. clean the slag off the outside with an acid dip. You should be able to bend the blank it half (it will be so soft) with only your thumbs. Imagine how easy it would be to press an image into it, even one made from reinforced resin.

I have made copper stills and all kinds of copper odds and ends. This isn't rocket science.

Given all I said, It's tough to outright point out a shyster without the coin in hand. It's one of the reasons I hate buying coins without first seeing them because even great photos can skew the colours and light.
