I only need a few more State Quarters to find to complete my set of circulated ones. I am planing on starting the silver proofs and proofs next. Can I, or should I buy these without the plastic case? Does it change the value much? I will be putting these in a Dansco album.

Thanks again all ..

Wornslick

This is a hard question to answer. It would depend on what else you are collecting or may plan to collect. If you are planning to collect silver quarters only, then I would buy which ever ones I could find at the best price.

For years 2005 thru 2008, the mint sold a set that just had silver quarters. These are very reasonably priced, I think around $20. For my 1999 silver quarters I bought all 5 loose/seperate, my local dealer gave them to me cheap at $10 each.

There is a point where if you are collecting more than just quarters, it might be wise to purchase the whole proof or mint sets to fill all the slots in the different books. I have the current cent, nickel and quarter albums, this week I will order the dime, half and Ike albums. If you are planning on doing something like this then buying the complete sets might be your "best price" way to go.

Thanks GoldRush58, I am planing on just the state proofs and silver proofs like you did. Just checked out the US Mint site and it looks like I can buy the District of Columbia and US Territories for 29.95. I just didn't know how having the case would affect the price. I will look around and see if a better price than that is available. I would love to find the 1999's for $10.00 a piece after seeing what they are asking for the set.

Wornslick,

I am sure there may be better deals out there .. like watching ebay. But this site I check first when I am looking for proof or Bu coins (sets) ... I have had good luck with him.
