Well my last day at work is Monday. The whole chain of stores is closing. Things were bad so they're closing down. This couldn't have come at a worser time. I still have been seeing a doctor and the medical expenses are mounting and I am uninsured and now w/o a job.

that sucks! In Canada, we have universal health care, or so the government says at least. I know you will get through it ok so dont worry. Everything happens for a reason. Keep posting no matter what!

Sorry to hear that nds76, losing ones job can be a tramatic experience. Hang in there buddy. Usually when one door closes another opens. Hopefully you are able to collect unemployment until your next job comes up. I know its not much but it helps. I will say a little prayer for you and wish you good luck. Terry

Sorry to hear that my friend. But things happen for a reason. Now you need to think positive and go and find a better job, perhaps one with health benefits. Don't sit and be depressed, get off your duff and go find a better job, that pays better and has at least some health bennies--Good Luck my friend, cheer up, YOU will land on your feet!!

Welcome to my world nds76. I know exactly how you feel as my job of 28 years was simply eliminated last fall and it has been a struggle ever since. Working for about half the money I was making the last 15 years and constantly looking for another job is tough. I try to keep coming up with new woodworking ideas to supplement my now meager income so I have had my good months and plenty of bad ones. Keep your chin up and start climbing the ladder again. Thats all we can do and hopefully we can skip a few rungs now and then. Good luck!

Really sorry to hear that I was fired twice out of the blue First time after 23 years with an american multinational Second time after 4 years with an english multinational
You certainly do not get used to it It took me 6 months to recover both times
After the second time we learned to live without a lot of the necessities of life like new clothes every 3 months , gadgets, plasma TV etc We halved our expenses
Health insurance is of course free in Belgium Now I only work when somebody is willing to pay MY price
If you are versitile you will find a better job Good luck

I was downsized from my company and lost my job so I know what you're going thru. It is not the best that can happen to you when you in your 40's and over qualified. That really means, "your too old & we dont want to pay you for what you know". Hang in there and keep your faith. You may have to travel or relocate but I am sure you will find something. Try Monster.com to test the water and see what out there.

When I was working in construction it was a never ending scenario. They would tell every one about all the big jobs they had lined up and when the job you were on finished you got laid off. That's probably why I'm such a cynic--too many lying pieces of expelled waste product in the work place.
The worse thing you can do is brood about it. I did that too many times and it just feeds on itself. It's practically a job to force yourself out the door to look for something, but you have to do it.
I think about this all the time. I've been very lucky to have worked steady now for 7 years (the longest ever that I worked without a lay off) even if I am working in a Mcjob. But I still see the day when globalization will kick us to sleep, ALL OF US, in the so-called "advanced economies" are going to realize that we really are on our own, whether we like it or not.
Good luck nds, don't brood about it, don't give up!

Life is a long bumpy roller coaster ride. Parts of the ride can be scary. You can hold on tight out of fear or you can throw your hands in the air and enjoy the ride. Either way the ride continues and you'll be coming out of this dip and climbing the next hill. There will be more curves ahead. You are so much more than your job. You'll have less income for awhile but on the bright side you'll have more free time.

Sorry that this had to happen to you. But everything in life happens for a reason, and hopefully there's a good reason for this in your life.
