Cool note :) .. I think that note was printed in December 1978 from a run of 640,000, according to uspapermoney.info..

(I'm writing this mainly just to understand the concept of old star ranges..)

I went through another 50 $2 bills from the "bank hoard".. There were plenty of 1976 and 1995 notes, including 3 1976 stars:

B00903022*
G00043365*
G00872362*

Most of the Series 1995 notes had signs of adhesive, red marks, and slight tears at the top.. Like they were torn out of a checkbook.. I've heard stories of someone doing this to $2 bills..

Has anybody else?

Got this one today. It is very crisp and I suspect didn't have any folds before the person who gave it to me got hold of it. It's from a time before the internal strip so I checked it with a magnifying glass before I took it.

I really, really like these old style notes better than the new ones..

We coulda just added the watermark and color-shifting ink to these notes.. It would have worked well enough..

And with colors.. Snazzy lol

I've been a cashier just over 3 years now, and I've seen (and kept) more than my share of old bills. Generally, I won't keep anything unless it's from series '88 or earlier; series '96 $1 bills hit circulation hard every time somebody discovers an old change jar and the economy takes another dive.

But, I've had some interesting finds over the years, including:

Old-Bills-Found-In-Circulation!-Post-Yours!
Series '35-E (Priest/Humphrey) $1 silver certificate. Used to buy groceries.

Old-Bills-Found-In-Circulation!-Post-Yours!
Series '63 $10 star note. Used to buy a scratch-off lotto ticket. Still crisp.

$280 in series '81-85 $20 bills, all lightly circulated. The customer said that it was her "rainy day" fund from college, but she realized it was worth about half as much as it was back then.

And of course, more than $400 in star notes (about 80 bills, mostly singles) and a nice collection of neat serial numbers, including a $20 bill with serial number 00000211.

And truth be told, I will probably end up spending most of that collection. Bills are expensive.

to the forums, Finn!

Those finds you have pictured are pretty sweet! I really like that $10 star..

The rest of your finds you mentioned, I'd keep the low serial number, and some of the star notes.. Specifically the ones in crispy new condition and the Short run notes. These are the notes that were made in groups of 640,000 or less..

This info can be found in the serial number tables section at https://www.uspapermoney.info

My daughter got this at the bank last week. I don't usually save paper, but thought it was interesting for face value.

Nice find, penny man! .. Not worth much over face, but still cool to find those old bills floating around..

I wish my bank would save old bills for me.. I got $80 in fives once because I said I was looking for old bills.. The teller said "yup" and counted away $80 in mostly colorized bills :P lol

No, not *usually*

What is the serial number of it? There are some runs of 1988A notes that are rare, (called Web Notes... I can explain a bit more later, or Google it), and the easiest way to tell for now is by checking the serial number...

This is a plain 1988 or a 1988A?
