Calzone, it's rare that I use cash for purchases anymore. A debit card is so much easier, but it definitely eliminates finding goodies in my change.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I totally understand. Though when I go out and buy things, I usually prefer cash. But that's a topic for another thread.

Last year the retail cashier said while giving me change, oh no, that's a funny one. I said its ok, I will take it.

Ugh! I found a 1990-series $20 in my stack from the ATM the other day...
I saw that old small portrait in the stack and figured I'd pull it out when I got home.
Then stopped at the PO and immediately forgot about it.
Mailed the darn thing to a relative in a bithday card....!!!
Got home, looked for the note and slapped myself.
I know it has no premium over face, but they're fewer and farther between as they say!
And the person to whom I sent the note has no interest in banknotes. I'm sure that 20 is in a till at the shop by now!

The Feds had stockpiled many 1969s in vaults for emergency use. They were finally released around 1990, so those have seen relatively less circulation than other notes from that era, and thus a higher % survive.

While researching the 1963 note, it appears it's a Mule Note as the back plate number is below 447 (according to the interwebs).. probably doesn't make much difference considering it's condition but still a fun extra :)
