You have two sticks that take exactly one hour to burn each. But they are not uniform as far as length and width. One stick is longer than the other, and the other stick is wider than the other. So, burning half of a stick does not necessarily mean that a half an hour has elapsed.
Burning the sticks however you like, how can you determine when exactly 45 minutes has elapsed?

For about a half second I saw them as years then as numbers/amount. that next one is a toughy. May be someone else can get it but my brain hurts. WOLF

Burn one of the sticks from both ends, and the other stick from one end.
After 30 mins the first stick will be burnt away. At that point, set fire to the other end of the second stick. When that stick has completely burnt, 45 minutes will have elapsed. WOLF
