There are some really good young collectors out there too on the various forums. There is one on my forums that newcomers are usually surprised to learn that he is only 15. He was only 14 when he joined. He is the Forum Leader in the banknote area. He is one of the good ones but he is not alone. There are some out there though... ...but I try to remember that I was young and knew everything at one time too.

This is the only forum that I'm actively participating on, but I do pop in at Coin Talk from time to time. I went there after CoinWorld folded, but didn't really feel comfortable there. It was just so serious there, not a place for someone with a slightly warped sense of humor... Rachel [:p]

Yeah, tell me about it. I joked on there when someone had a gold plated Ike dollar that it may very well be solid gold and people got all serious about testing the core and everything and wouldn't laugh it off like me. I was like "Okay, I'm outta here".

I really dont want to mess with this thread, but the problem was not a lack of a sense of humor, but the new collector and member that brought the coin asked a question to which he deserved a serious answer, the confusion that was caused was not positive by any sense of the word.
So now on a positive note, Iam truely glad to see you contributing on this forum ,,so far I'm impressed with the difference !!

Hehe well see the thing is I actually talked to Spid. on pm's about it and he said he knew it was plated and that it was quite comical what I was saying. I truly do like contributing to this forum. Things were spoiled on CT on the get go cuz GDJMSP flat out said my French coin was fake and insisted on it which was not true at all. He has quite a history of calling something a fake on there if he can't instantly reference it with an exact match.

I just hope that doesn't happen here because quality of posts are more important than any post meter...anyday. Otherwise, good threads will get buried in mindless dribble...and who wants to read dribble?

It is my opinion that GDJMSP is a class act and an excellent numismatist.

Spid. was the one who cared about announcing his post number quite often. I got a high number on there cuz I liked replying to alot of the threads with knowledge and the like. GDJMSP is a great numismatist but he needs to cool it with instantly telling people their coins are fake just cuz they don't match up 100% with the exact reference he is using.

NOS, while I really don't want to fuel a fire here, I know GDJSMP outside of the Coin Talk forum and he has been extremely helpful. I had a 1770 8-Reales coin that I was convinced was counterfeit. He spent a lot of time with it and doing research and came to the conclusion that it was genuine, just in very poor shape. I say this because it showed me that he doesn't automatically attach a "fake" label on everything. I am not trying to argue with you and please don't take this post that way; I'm just saying that he gives a lot of thought and research into his answers (even though those answers aren't always popular).

GDJMSP is a class numismatic. There are names that warrant reading and GDJMSP is my "read list"...for sure! If you ask a question, you may not like the answer and that suits me just fine.

Yes those are some very fair and well written points to note. He does take quite a bit of time researching but if he can't find an exact reference he will say it is fake. I have no intention of making him look bad but out of all the coin people out there I've seen he's the one who most often suggests it. Take for example my post here about my French coin. In his very first reply he suggests it is counterfeit. http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=4997On here he talks about how people wouldn't buy this poor guys coins due to his geographic region cuz some people sell counterfeit's from his country: http://www.coinpeople.com/forums/vi...1585&start=0Here's another where he suggests the coin is fake: http://www.cointalk.org/archive/ind...p/t-867.htmlAnd there are more direct posts I remember seeing but you just gotta search google real well. He should simply be more hesitant when suggesting a coin is fake and tell people who are new to this marvelous hobby to get a second opinion as it can be very hurtful when someone immediately suggests it.

I have known Doug for at least 2.5 years, and at no time did he come across to me as someone who would pronounce a coin a fake unless he had some very strong evidence to support his claim. Over this time he has always supported and promoted numismatics. His accululation and willingness to share the data will help you with your collecting knowledge. I for one am proud to call GDJMSP a friend and fellow collector. So let's knock off the bad mouthing and get back to talking about coins.

I hate to wander so far from the original topic but since I have personal knowledge of this one ... GDJMSP was exactly right about coins coming out of Asia, IMO. Many, many counterfeits come out of that area especially Trade dollars and Bust Dollars, etc. I myself am extra leery when they show up. In fact, Ben's (bjkoh) Trade dollar did end being a very obvous countereit of the type often found coming out of that region of the world.
