MS-66 RD, maybe 65 with the weakness in AMER. Nice coin!

That is really nice! I am hoping it's MS-66 RD.

I'd say 65 Rd which would probably put it in a 66 slab.

Is that a scratch, over the top of Liberty, or, on the slab?

Nice! When you get to 66 and up it's almost impossible to photograde because luster and eye appeal weigh heavily.

Does the weakness in AM effect the grade of the coin? My guess is no because of this grade. Beauty of a coin from the pictures

I think an MS-70 has to be a hammered strike. MS-68 and MS-69 need to be an above average strike. MS-67 and MS-66 can be average. MS-65 or lower can be soft so long as other aspects of the coin are strong.

Well thank you for that input. I've watching a lot of these posts here, I just tend not to comment on many :) So I'm trying to continue to learn. Congrats on winning a nice coin too.

Quote: Does the weakness in AM effect the grade of the coin? Absolutely can....but this one slide by...it happens. That's why I gave it a 66 and I stand by my grade. NGC can be just plain weird on higher grade Lincolns which is probably why PCGS higher grade coins take more money in at sales.

PCGS requires full strike for MS-68+, MS-69 and MS-70 but will allow some strike weakness, as this coin exhibits in one area only, for MS-68 or lower. For appearance this one hits MS-67 on the head: http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/#/Lincoln/Grades

Actually mystery SOLVED I took another look at the coin what looks like strike weakness on the AM are just some fine scratches on the holder.

Would AM be a problem spot on the penny? It is pretty much behind lincolns head correct? And that would be a higher point on the coin?
