Note taken.
I love learning and this quiz has been great fun, and a lot of learning. It has become obvious that I am oblivious to foreign coin details.
Good luck to all with the rest of the quiz. I'm happy with my honorary .01 point. I'll keep reading and learning, but I'll leave the answers to those more qualified.

Question 8 (Speaking of the debate "penny vs. cent" that raged here on the forum a while back.)

Penny will mean that official denomination of the country which had it first (in this very spelling), with a cent being US$ .01. At the moment when the younger of the two, a penny and a cent, was adapted to the gold standard how did they relate?

The unusual obverse of the 1953 crown was designed by G.Ledward and was inspired by press photographs of the Queen riding "Winston" at the Trooping of the Colour ceremony in London.

After the United States adopted the dollar as its unit of currency and accepted the gold standard in 1873, one British shilling was worth 24 U.S. cents. Which made 1 penny = 2 cents.

Question 9.

Ali-Baba discovered a cave with 13 chambers each full of identical gold coins. There was a note, however, stating that in one of the chambers all coins were counterfeit and not really gold. The note stated that genuine coins weighed 10 grams each while the fake ones only 9 g.
At Ali-Baba's disposal there was a digital scale that showed any weight accurately to a gram, but he could use it only once! How can Ali-Baba figure out which chamber has counterfeit coins with a single weighing?

I read too far into the question. I didn't think you were looking for the relation to the penny and cent...but to the "country" of the penny and the US. Only thing I could think of that related were the soverign and eagle (gold standard). Oh well...GOOD JOB WEAVUS!!
