The head of the 28s looks like hair. Compare to the 30 above.

Nice Gormang! So now you've got 2 1916s! You're my partner in crime. ;-) Where are you finding them? I would send both of yours into ANACS or PCGS for certification, as it would make them a lot easier to sell or show off. I got this one about a week ago, and I'm about to send it to ANACS.

Nice one Johnny! I found them on ebay just like you. I have always looked for them for many, many years in many different places. But I was never very good at the diagnostics, picked up a lot of no date 1917s along the way. Thanks for the education on them, I'm much better at picking them out now. I thought only ANACS would authenticate/grade them with no date, I didn't think PCGS would do that. I actually have a few different coins I need to get together and send in all at once.

Nice! Yes, PCGS will authenticate and grade dateless examples, I've seen ones more worn than yours in their slabs. NGC is the only one that won't(don't know why). I like ANACS because I know I will at least get a details grade instead of just a genuine holder, and also cheaper faster and easier....though PCGS examples usually bring a bit more. I've mostly been happy with ANACS, at least for ones that are totally dateless. Both of yours look FR2-ish to me for details! If you send them in, keep us posted on the results!
