I'm not sure if it's just me. But I think sometimes I get more emotionally attached to the well worn coins. Not just the SLQ's but all. It's like they hold more secrets that will never be told. I see them, hold them, and just wonder.

I can always fantasize about owning an album full of such high grade specimens as some folks have shown here, while appreciating their willingness to share. Simple facts of coin collecting are that the whole realm is highly delineated, and the stronger your budget, the better your collection can be. This includes a budget of time as well as cash. Choice specimens in any collectibles realm require searching, networking, visiting shops and shows.. all the time consuming details involved prior to the actual expenditure. Not everyone who is fascinated with coins has these resources. 'Back in the day' when silver was the only way to make change, the fun was in the natural finding while doing the normal activities of life. The gleanings of times past can be shared, but the genuine magic of that era of circulating silver is not transferable via digital imagery or the most compelling stories. I feel privileged by Nature to have lived through part of that period. I was pretty young; I wish I had been wiser about what I was doing with coins back then, on a kid's allowance supplemented by snow shoveling of neighborhood sidewalks plus whatever odd chores would gain me an extra silver quarter to put away. I wish I had kept everything I once had, and I will forever regret showing my teenage collection to a couple of school 'chums' just before our family left for a long summer vacation. When we returned, most of that fine early collection built from circulation was gone. /nostalgia
