I dont mean to rain on the parade here but have you considered getting your dog from a rescue group or the humane society? I am just throwing this out here for thought as there are about 8 million unwanted or stray dogs/cats brought into shelters every year and nearly half of them are euthanized. Part of the problem is overbreeding. Like I said, I am not saying this to hijack the thread but rather to help you consider another option in case you and your wife hadn't considered it. Either way, best of luck to you with your new friend. :)

Wow, 17 pages, too much for me to keep straight so I'll just throw my names out there and see what happens.
-My brother used to know someone who named their dog darn it--- as in "Come here, darn it!" or "roll over, darn it!" Always thought that was funny, though I doubt the wife would. Least my wife didn't.
EDIT: looks like the auto-censor caught me on that one, I was halfway wondering if it would. Might not be the most "appropriate" name but it sure was funny.
Other possible names include:
-Sunshine -Happy
(both just good retriever names, because they are always such happy puppies!)
