Litoles, looks like you have a RPD on that 1513. Or a RCD (ReCarved Date). :) I'm not sure how they made coins back then. Research time.

Slow down! I still have a week until I get my coin, and I would like to take a real Picture and not post the seller's pic I will probably get it on the 16th or 17th, so give each year at least 24 hrs Nice coins btw!

I guess we're going to get to about 1500 and then that will be the end. I've heard that hardly any coins made before 1500 had dates on them.

The earliest dated Hungarian denar was 1503 and the earliest dated Hungarian coin was a 1499 Guldengroschen(nicknamed Guldiner). I have a bid in on a 1509 that ends Saturday so I'll post the 1510 then and wait two or three days to post the 1509 if I win it.

Those early 'wee denar' coins are remarkably plentiful and inexpensive. Eastern Europe must be a great place to own a metal detector. I have a couple from the first decade of the 1500's, but they are at present not locatable in my chaos-2.0 filing system. :( However.. just *try* to find anything affordable from this time period that is over ~28 mm-! I do have a thaler-size 1486 ! Unfortunately it is a bee-yoo-tiful official restrike. :(

BenByfield,it looks like 15_0. I do know that Ferdinand ruled between 1526 and 1564.

Here is a 1510K-G Hungary silver denar WladislausII error coin. On the madonna side it has "PA" of PATRONA and "ISLAI" of WLADISLAI. On the shield side,it has "WLAD" of WLADISLAI and "TRONA" of PATRONA. Also, there is a "G" in the lower right hand portion of the shield. I won the 1509 today. I'll wait a couple of days to give Ngdawa a chance to get his 1508.
