Wouldn't it be nice if you could just get a photo certificate stating authenticity and grading and pedigree? Or better yet, since grading circulated coins is actually feasible with Photograde, wouldn't it be nice if folks could just get a simple authentication certificate instead of paying for this months grading standards? On the other hand, this might not be lawful in America. You know simple, easy answers that don't require fear factors and a Marcus Welby nod from authority figures are sort of frowned upon. Just imagine collecting a coin, grading it yourself, having it authenticated by the Marcus Welbys-- (who apparently really can do that)--and then just storing your coins in any holder you like? You know, that would almost be like coin collecting. What kind of idealist rubbish is that!
And certificates? Certificates? "That is like sooooo 80's man."

If I'm not mistaken NGC will issue certificates but only for things they can't get into a slab: large medals, multiple thalers etc. You could see if they would make an exception for you and issue a cert for your large cent including the pedigree. Who knows, NGC appears to be somewhat progressive.

Thanks for the pic, that's a mighty fine coin you got there.

Sell it. Buy one local to you that you can hold to inspect to insure that it is problem free. I wouldn't buy a slabbed coin to crack open unless you got it for raw coin money. Good luck on your decision.

It seems to match up quite well with other coins I have seen in the same grade by all the BIG 3 companies (ANACS,PCGS,NGC)so I think it is graded pretty well. I didn't pay AU-50 money for the coin anyhow, I paid about EF45 money for it and didn't pay any premium for the pedigree because like I said I didn't even know it had the pedigree until I had already bought it. I have no idea where to go to see if anyone wants to trade this thing for a regular coin of equal value in the same style of Large Cent except here or CU forums, so if anyone here wants it and has something to trade with let me know and if anyone knows good places to advertise it for trade please let me know that also if no one here wants the coin. I am glad I asked because I didn't want to crack it out and lose the pedigree but I wanted to fill that hole also so I was going to do it and figured I would ask the question here before I did it and glad I did now. I have no problem cracking a coin out because just about every coin in the 7070 I have now came from either ANACS,NGC or PCGS slabs but none of them had a significant pedigree like this one does

EAC grading standards are significantly tougher than any TPG.

In addition to your ideas concerning where to trade, send an email to your regional EAC coordinator. Chances are that person has the ability to disseminate your offer to a whole lot of specifically-interested collectors.

I wouldn't crack it either. I'm not into pedigrees, but if it's an "interesting" one it would really suck to blow it away.

Bryan,
I don't put a value on the pedigree. Coin collecting is all about the coin. I have been collecting for over 40 years and learned that coins are valuable as to condition, popularity and rarity. If a premium was paid for the pedigree then I would sell it and get another one to replace it.

well I have offered it to trade here on these boards and on CU forums and no one seems to want to trade it for a regular Large Cent without a pedigree so if no one decides they want it by Sunday I guess I will go ahead and crack it out and put it in the Dansco and not worry about it. I did not pay any premium for it at all so the pedigree means nothing to me, I just figured it may be something someone may want to have that collects early copper because of the pedigree and figured that I would rather trade with someone that it means something to instead of cracking it out and losing the pedigree

Why not try and sell it on ebay? I don't know what the demand for that coin is, but you could check on previous closed auctions and see where it might take you.

Is there a reason you're in a rush on this coin, or do you have enough time to look at other avenues?
