My name is Robert and I found this forum through another. I am serious collector of "Classic" coinage from the US. I thought my first post in this forum would be here seeing as how this is my favorite spot on this site.

My absolute favorite piece of history is the Barber series of coinage. It took me over two years to compile a complete set of half dollars, some good ones, some great ones and some yawners. Have been upgrading now for almost six months but do not have a scan/picture of the new coins inserted in the album. Below is my collection of Barbers when I first completed it, I know there is a coin in one slot that doesn't fit the date on the Dansco album, it was just misplaced in my collection and I had to dig out the correct one when I noticed it.

Enjoy and comments would be appreciated.

A nice complete set. My goal is a high quality piece of the half, quarter and dime. The examples I have are VG at best.

My goal is to make this an Auction set. Unfortunately some of the earlier dates in F/VF condition can cost upwards of $150-$200 dollars a coin......

My wife thinks I am crazy, I tell her everytime no, not crazy, ADDICTED!

Hi Robert,
I am a new member as well. I collect the barber series as well. I have a full set of halves, in the same basic grades as you described. I have the quarters as well My quarter set lacks the keys, 1896-s, 1901-s, and the 1913-s. My dimes are lacking the 1892-s, 1894-0, 1895,1895-0,1896, 1896-s 1897-0,1901-s,and the 1903-s. I have all the others in varying grades in dansco albums. I love the design, and that all the denominations have the same obverse design. Your half set is very impressive. It has taken me years as well to get as far as I have. Welcome to the site.

Very nice, good job!

Crazy is trying to amass a 24-coin Barber Half proof set in 63. Suicidal for all 72 coins.

Nice to finally complete something, then begin the tedious task of upgrading, isn't it? Absolutely!! Good job. Considering the micro "O" as part of the upgrade?

Great accomplishment. That is the one thing about Dansco I really don't like. Those last empty slots. Always makes me wonder why they didn't spend the time making the pages so when filled, they are filled. Although Whitman does do that, it is to bad their products are not as well made as Danso. I too used a Dansco for that same Album and put just duplicate dates in those at the end so no empty spots.
Again, nice going there.

A well matched set of Barbers, grade-wise, is an enjoyable collection to behold. I once had the pleasure of helping a friend assemble a set of F-VF, and it took some years to complete. One particular problem was that dealers tended to price F-15 coins at VF-20 levels.

Regarding the last seven holes in the Dansco album, how about putting a graduated grading set in there ... Good, VG, Fine, VF, XF, AU and an Unc ... seven holes, seven coins!
