I personally will get a holder for my nephews and encourage them to collect the presidents. They love the State Quarters and anything that can get the started in the hobby is good for the hobby. I got started with a handful of Liberty half dollars. I even put them in a frame. Today they are worth no more than melt value, but they still hang on my wall!

I will not go out of my way to collect the dollars. Since I have a subscription at the mint for the mint and proof sets, I will get them that way just like I did the State Quarters.

I believe I like them better than I thought I would when I read about them. Hopefully they won't be too expensive or minted in too small numbers so only a few can et them.
Rest in Peace

Welcome to the forum rons.

Based on what I have read, I really don't think there will be a problem with obtaining the coins.

As much as I like the idea of dollar coins, I don't know why the mint even bothers producing them, they will always fail. Seems the mint is in it for the money. I am so sick of presidents on coins, might as well start using plastic.

I like the pictures of the founding fathers...They create a bit of curiosity and hopefully people will study some history of the times. One coin every three months would allow some good time to read a good book about each president as the come along.

But when I think of some of the more modern presidents, I'll have to resist defacing a couple of em. Holed coins may become popular again.

My sentiments exaactly, Toast just leave it to US politicians to authorize a series of coins touting other politicians...

Of all the beautiful and wonderful natural attributes of this great country, why can't these jaded poliiticians come up with a series of coins celebrating natural wonders or even heroes of the republic instead of commemorating themselves?

Holes, counterpunches, chop marks...what a way to protest!!!

I'm only half joking, folks

Rest in Peace

toast has some very good points.

Regarding some of the more modern presidents, well, we elected them. You reap what you sow.

Also, it occurs to me that complaining is counter-productive. It really doesn't serve a purpose. The decision has been made, and I would guess the minting has already started. So, either jump on the bandwagon, or sulk.

I will predict the coins will be popular. Not as popular as the Statehood Quarters, but popular.

As a former history teacher, I'm excited about the new series.

Time will tell. One thing is for certain however, and that is the mint will make a fortune. Unfortunately, the profits will be dumped into the general fund rather than being used to improve the mints, and the mint products.

If I recall correctly, WE THE PEOPLE elected Al Gore by popular vote in 2000, but the Supreme Court appointed Bozo the Clown as our President, the snotty nosed rich kid whose daddy got him out of Viet Nam but who now wants to be a "war hero" by sending other young men and women to die for his glorification. I hope I'm around to mutilate his coin, as the Romans did the coins of Caligula.

Can we please keep this to something REMOTELY coin-related? Or at least preface your post/thread with a big OT (off topic)?

Yesterday local radio talk show discussed these coins.
their concern was how dare the Mint take in gog we trust off of the face of the coin and put it on the edge.

They felt it was a conspiracy to remove in God we trust from the American monetary system.

They went on to claim that the first time in God we Trust was placed on American currency was in the 1950s then someone called in and corrected them and let them know that it first appeared on the 1864 2cent piece.

Then the discussion went from this would most likely be a coin for collectors not for circ and it will have the same results as the SAC & SBA dollar coins

Your thoughts?

Just to correct a misunderstanding, it is a fact that "In God We Trust" first appeared on our currency (paper money) in the 1950's during the Truman administration after WWII. It is also a fact "In God We Trust" first appeared on our coins in 1864 on the Two Cent Piece and subsequently all other coin denominations, just after the Civil War.

I find it not to be coincidental that in both instances our nation was recovering from major war traumas and felt closer to God at those times...just another fascinating historical viewpoint.

Has the USA ever had a gay President? Was wondering how they would do his partner on the gold coin. What happens if a President was single, widowed or divorced when he was in office or have ALL your Presidents been straight and married when in Office?

Well, Briss, if there have been any gay presidents, they never admitted to it.

Our only "bachelor" President (who admitted to nothing) was James Buchanan (1857-1861). I think a niece or cousin or some such relative acted as his hostess at the White House in lieu of a First Lady. I doubt they'll put her on a coin.

But then, they can make up for it with Wilson's two wives. The first (Ellen Axson) died after he became President, and within a year or two he married a woman named Edith Galt.

Well, if we have had a gay President, it is a secret. Several of them have not been married while in office however. Each First Ladies gold coin will be issued at the same time as the corresponding President. The tentative plan right now is to issue "alternative designs" when a President without a wife comes around, what ever that means
