There is an interesting bit of history attached to Bahadur shah (1526-36.AD). He was invited for a compromise by the Portuguese to a ship. He left the ship but due to some misunderstanding, fighting began between the two sides. It is said that Bahadur fell down from the boat he was travelling and drowned himself and that his body was never regained.

This is an Awadh state coin in the Indian Princely states segment. Both the sides are shown the right side up.Probably of Wajid Ali Shah. Please consult the Krause Publications book Standard Catalogue of South Asian coins and Paper Money. There is a link that could be of use. https://www.marudhararts.com/marudh...-state-.htmlThanks

Hi drnsreedhar,
I saw some of your posts about Indian coinage and thought that I'd send a question. I have recently become interested in the coins used in the history of Gujarat state/area. I am wondering if you can suggest one or more books that would help me? I'm most interested in pre-1900 material. One other thing that will make this a challenge for me is that I don't yet know Gujarati. :-) But I will try. Can you help?

@wertsdb: Thank you for the post. The standard book used worldwide for Sultanate coins of India is "The coins of the Indian Sultanates" by Goron & Goenka. There is another book by Dilip Rajgor "Standard catalogue of the Sultanate coins of India" published by Amrapali Publications, Pune. These two books will give you good guidance in medieval Gujarat coins.
