The 1972 is the good one. I have only found two and it is the only reason I get 5c coins from the bank for noddling. They are just TOOOOOOOOO small :-)

I've had a few weeks off and have been doing some noodling. Highlights have been 2 x 1972 5c, a 1961 British 2 shillings, a 1973 50c, a large head 2004 20c and probably the full set of New Zealand coins ( at least that's what it felt like).

I have a couple of questions for seasoned noodlers.

- Is the 1977 10c rare? It has a mintage of 10 mill which is less than the 1972 10c but I accumulated so many 1977 10c that I just ended up setting most of them free again.

- Is the 1974 50c rare? In $30 worth of 50c I ended up with 4 of them. its mintage is just under 9 mill but 50c tend to last longer in circulation due to their greater value and larger size.

I'm just curious on whether I should be hanging onto them or not.

Hi Mobofroos
While I cant tell you "keep/ignore coin XXX", the following may help you decide for yourself.
As well as mintage, I would also consider "what proportion of the coins out there are this year" as it is directly related to "how hard is it to get one of these coins if you want to find one".
That would greatly affect how desirable they are for a collector.
If someone wants a set including all the years, and it is easy to find all the coins, then none of them will be worth much.
If a particular year is hard to find then that year will be worth more.
Compare the mintage figures with the total number of coins produced (and/or to numbers of coins in other years) to work out how hard it is to find a particular year.
