Thanks! I would like to buy, but looks really expensive and hard to find. I only have the cheapest items right now. And the Nuthatch was bid for over 300$ on ebay ~

Funny story about the Nuthatch that happened about 6 months ago.

I was looking for one on ebay for a few weeks. I even had a special search url saved. I was checking it every 30-60 minuets during my work hours (yes a big no-no) to see if I could get one.

Anyways, after a few weeks, I saw one listed with a buy it now of $ 35.00 (yup that's thirty five, not three hundred & fifty). Took me all of 5 seconds to click on "buy it now".

When I spoke to the owner of the auction, he could not believe what I did. He had just posted the auction and it was sold within 5 minuets.

Sometime a little perseverance goes a long way.

Good on you jpaiva83, and (at the risk of sounding like an old-timer while being quite new to the forum myself) welcome to the forum.

I did the same about a month ago. Visited a numismatic dealer and saw the nuthatch, downy woodpeck, and northern cardinal, all selling for under $70. Bought all three to the surprise of the owner. He still thinks these birds are over priced. I put them on ebay with 0.99 start price to let the bidders at them (wanted to keep them but the missus saw an opportunity) and was quite happy with the 200% return on my initial investment :P
Rest in Peace

Just my observation, but ever since the Goldfinch came out, there's been a huge interest in the series. And I think that is why some collectors are willing to pay higher prices for past releases to complete their bird collections.

Why weren't any coins from this series issued in 2009?

Do you know when the series will end?

I have a suspicion they will never end this series so as long as they have enough bird species. A start of a new breed of coin collecting may have been born a few years ago. Why didn't I get into it? arrrghhh!

Here 's the way I see...there's a new generation of coin collectors coming into the market now...Price is not measured by yearly increases or decreases,,,now it's all about the ART...You see something...and you want it...this new collector doesn't really care if it's a precious metal or steel...they just fall in love with said item and pay what ever they have to to own one...I believe this is why collectors are paying $405.00 now for a painted piece of steel... Isn't it a wonderful world...I'm so glad I own the compete set..

Feel free to disagree with me...it's just my opinion

Nothing new though, this is what you'd see in the art collecting world. Lot of other examples in numismatics as well. I'm sure there are non-hobbyists shaking their heads when one of us spends hundreds of dollars on a bygone coin.

Wow!
What a way to start the day! Reading your post and then digging through a box of coin and finding some of the colored bird quarters!
I never thought that they would go up in price!
Might be time to head to the safety deposit box this morning.
Thanks!
